PCOD vs PCOS: What Is the Difference?
PCOD and PCOS are often used interchangeably, but they are not exactly the same. Both can affect periods, ovulation, hormones, weight, and fertility.

The important point
PCOS is not simply “having cysts in the ovaries.” In fact, a person can have PCOS without polycystic-appearing ovaries, and having multiple ovarian follicles on an ultrasound does not automatically mean PCOS.
PCOS is generally diagnosed based on a combination of features such as irregular ovulation/periods, evidence of excess androgens, and polycystic ovarian morphology, after other causes have been excluded.
PCOD is a term commonly used in India and some other regions, but modern medical literature generally focuses on PCOS as the recognized syndrome.
